After a general look at the steam scene that was the Midland Railway, there is a journey along the line through Luton and the now long since closed branches to Welwyn and Dunstable. There follows an in- depth look at the steam scene around Wellingborough with loaded coal trains and returning empties in the hands of 9Fs, Stanier 8Fs and WD's. After a visit to the now closed LNWR route to Northampton, a visit is made to the Ironstone quarries at Finedon, Kettering Furnaces and Cranford. A few early diesels are seen on the main line including Peaks and Class 27s with the latter employed mainly on local duties.
