Softback. Portrait format. 40 pages. B&W. The principal of the articulate steam locomotive origniated with the first examples being built in South Wales and the USA as early as 1832. However, it was not until 1900 that the Garratt locomotive as we know it were built commencing with a pair of 2ft gauge 0-4-0 + 0-4-0 locomotives were built for the Tasmanian Government Railways. The first of them K1, was subsequently repatriated by the builder for preservation. Larger Garratt locomotives soon followed.
